Utilize your composites knowledge and expertise to perform design, development and analysis tasks on complex mechanical hardware including precision space structures, in a program team environment. Program support and technical leadership over requirements definition, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design, design documentation, and assembly/integration and testing. Candidate must have strong knowledge of composites, design for manufacturing, and ability to work independently or within a multi-disciplined team environment.
•Define and establish the technical approach to meet assigned objectives
•Direct, coordinate, control and provide assistance to work group in order to meet assigned objectives
•Provide technical direction, as needed, to junior engineers and other team members
•Use comprehensive information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand and solve problems
•Prepare reports, formal documentation and presentation materials summarizing design and/or analysis results
•Present work to both internal and external groups.
•Participate and present information for Preliminary Design reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR) and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM)
•Complete assigned projects on time; adhering to engineering standards
•Establish composite and metallic part design using 3D CAD and FEA
•Use mechanical design and analysis software including PTC Creo, PATRAN, MSC Nastran
•Contribute as part of a team to develop new methods of simulation and modeling for composite materials and structures
•Provide estimations of cost and schedule for business growth and program pursuits
•Candidate must be a good team player, contributor and self-starter
•Bachelor’s Degree and 6+ years of prior relevant experience, or a Master’s Degree with 4+ years of prior relevant experience, or equivalent
•Active Top Secret security clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
•Active TS/SCI security clearance
•Prior team lead or project lead experience
•Strong background in carbon fiber composite materials used in space-based applications.
•Comprehensive level knowledge of composite structure design.
•Knowledge of material degradation mechanisms such as creep, corrosion, and others, and experience with failure analysis and fracture mechanics.
•An understanding of structural analysis methods (FEA and hand-calculations).
•Ability to work independently without constant direction.
•Strong computer skills in programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
•Proficiency in CAD tools such as Creo Parametric and understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards
•Experience in an aerospace environment
